SDTR 8th Annual Barn Dance, on Saturday October 19, 2024, 6pm – 10pm

Putting the Fun in Fundraising at a Barn Dance:

How SDTR Kicks Up its Heels in Service to Sussex County

(Milton, DE Sept. 5, 2024) Each year since 1988, nonprofit Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding (SDTR) has relied on sponsorships, donations and fundraising to continue its mission of enriching the lives of local children and adults with special needs, one stride at a time.

Each October for the past seven years, SDTR has moved aside the riding arena hay bales to make room for a dance floor at its perennially sold-out Barn Dance.

This year’s down-home festivities at the SDTR Milton stable arena will once again include line dancing to live music by the Mason Dixon Band, a mouth-watering BBQ dinner provided by Whole Roast Barbeque Services, the always popular bourbon tasting station and live auction.

Tickets will go on sale mid-September so Save The Date:

 SDTR 8th Annual Barn Dance, on Saturday October 19, 2024, 6pm – 10pm

The Barn Dance is one of this deeply rooted Sussex County nonprofit’s major events to support SDTR’s mission of service through its family of therapy horses, local riders, certified instructors, and passionate volunteers. “SDTR Barn Dance fundraiser is critical in helping provide financial support for our therapeutic riding program, and scholarships for those who would otherwise be unable to benefit from our unique services,” said Jo Allegro-Smith, Executive Director. “SDTR has a specialized mission in service to Sussex County. The Annual Barn Dance is a critical cornerstone event in our ability to provide equine-assisted therapy to serve the unmet needs of participants who have a variety of physical or developmental disabilities.”

Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding (SDTR) is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization that was established in 1988. The Mission of SDTR is to improve the physical and emotional wellbeing of children and adults living with disabilities through equine-assisted services in a supportive environment for riders and their families. The program serves children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities such as cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and head trauma living in Sussex County, Delaware. SDTR strives to bring the advantages of therapeutic riding and other equine-assisted activities to all members of the community who can benefit.
