Lupo Italian Kitchen Demos at 10 am
At 10am at the Demo tent, the HLFM will host Executive Chef Jeff Hunter from Lupo Italian Kitchen for a Market Demonstration. Chef Jeff joined the SoDel Concepts team in 2020 as a Sous Chef at Bluecoast Rehoboth, then moved to Executive Chef of Lupo Italian Kitchen in 2023. This Saturday, Chef Jeff will prepare homemade ricotta with peaches from Bennett Orchards, sweet corn from Evans Farms Produce, heirloom tomatoes, and basil from the Market.
Customers can prepare for their Labor Day weekend celebrations at the Market this Saturday, with offerings including beef patties, pork sausages, chicken breasts, portabella mushrooms, sweet corn, and other veggies for the grill. Thirty-six local farmers/producers will also bring cherry and slicer tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, eggplants, green beans, summer and beginning winter squashes, potatoes, peppers, apples, pears, peaches, figs, plums, nectarines, cantaloupes, watermelons, rainbow chard, arugula, spring onions, red onions, garlic, oysters, live crabs, hand-picked crab meat, crab cakes, honey, jams, mushrooms, freshly laid eggs, ice cream treats, locally roasted coffee and coffee drinks, kombucha, cold-pressed juices, fresh-baked breads, cakes, cookies, pies, and pastries—including vegan and gluten-free selections—made with fruit from vendors at the Market, herb, veggie, and flower plants, fresh-cut herbs including Mojito mint, basil, and parsley, cut-flower bouquets including zinnias, sunflowers, and much more.
The HLFM is unique in that it is producer-only—customers connect directly with the farmer who grew the produce and raised the animals to buy their local fruit, veggies, eggs, dairy, and meats. This Market is where the farmers are—the most farmers in any farmers market in the Delmarva!
This Saturday is the last chance to purchase tickets for the HLFM Big Raffle for a chance to win some fan-favorite prizes: the Fabu-Lewes-Feast including 12 $100 restaurant gift cards and a Private-in-Home 3-Course Chef with Wine Pairing for 10 by Lewes Oyster House’s Chef Sean Corea. The drawing is this Saturday, August 31st, at 11am—winners do not have to be present at the Market to win.
As kids head back to school, this Saturday is the final Children’s Storytime at the Market for the season, at 10am under the yellow tent with volunteers reading books about farming, gardening, and healthy eating. All children and their adults are welcome. Thanks to Heirloom Restaurant for sponsoring this program.
Please note that dogs and other pets (except for service animals) are not permitted inside the Market. This is to ensure the safety of customers, vendors, and volunteers. Customers may still walk their dogs around the other paths and parts of George H.P. Smith Park but may not bring them inside the Market area.
The final HLFM Wednesday Market at Crooked Hammock Brewery of the season is Wednesday, September 4th. Customers should stop by the Crooked Hammock Brewery parking lot from 8 to 11:30 am for their last chance to shop at the Wednesday Market from Cosmic Dog Farm, Davidson’s Exotic Mushrooms, Dittmar Family Farms, Dream Catcher Homestead, Kalmar Farm, Mayhems Confections, Old World Breads, the Point Coffee House and Bakery, and Shady Meadow Farms. The HLFM thanks Crooked Hammock Brewery for sponsoring the Wednesday Market.
The HLFM website www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org lists all vendors, their contact information, and whether or not they take pre-orders. For pre-orders, the customer may pick up at the vendor tent in the Market.
The Market’s weekly newsletter lists what each vendor is bringing to market, demos and more. To receive the newsletter customers should email info@historiclewesfarmersmarket.org and ask to be added to the list.
The Market accepts SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP benefits, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Please go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.
The HLFM continues its Food Pantry Purchase Program. HLFM customers who want to help feed the local community may purchase local produce, meats, milk, and other food from growers at the Market to donate to this program every Saturday. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to food pantries including Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.
Parking is limited, so customers should walk or bike to the Market if they are able. The circle in front of the Fred Thomas Building at the foot of Dupont will be open for accessible drop-off and pick-up, with some spots available for accessible parking only. With the addition of new sidewalks to George H.P. Smith Park, the best place to park is in the main parking lot at the Lewes Elementary School (where the Market moves if it rains) at 820 Savannah Road. The HLFM asks customers to please drive carefully when parking for the Market and always watch for children, walkers, and bikers.
In case of inclement weather, the Market moves to the Lewes Elementary School parking lot, 820 Savannah Road.
The HLFM thanks The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group, 2024 HLFM Market Champion, for their continued support of the Market. It also thanks all of the 2024 Market Sponsors!
