Opening Friday, August 15 at the Cinema Art Theater in Lewes
Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater presents the fascinating documentaries, It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley, Souleyman’s Story and We are Guardians opening on Friday, August 15. The Society also continues the Summer Cinema Series with classic films, Citizen Kane and Duck Soup.
It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley
Directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg (Deliver Us from Evil, Janis: Little Girl Blue, West of Memphis), this compelling documentary covers the life of the rising young star with an otherworldly voice and boundary-pushing artistry, who left the ’90s music world reeling when he died suddenly, at age 30, after the release of his critically acclaimed debut album Grace. Told through never-before-seen footage from Buckley’s archives and intimate accounts from his mother Mary Guibert, former partners Rebecca Moore and Joan Wasser, Jeff’s former bandmates, including Michael Tighe and Parker Kindred, and luminaries like Ben Harper and Aimee Mann, the film illuminates one of modern music’s most influential and enigmatic figures. We Are Guardians
We Are Guardians follows Indigenous forest guardian Marçal Guajajara and activist Puyr Tembé
as they fight to protect their territories from deforestation, an illegal logger who has no choice but to cut the forest down, and a large landowner at the mercy of thousands of invaders and extractive industry. Through intimate, character focused storytelling, the film brings the issues to the forefront — from the science of the Amazon Rainforest and its pivotal role in our global climate stability to the economic drivers of deforestation. The film weaves together politics, history, economics, science, and consciousness, providing an in-depth exploration of this incredibly complex and critical situation — the origins and the impact of which ripple out far beyond the boundaries of the Amazon itself.
