Pollinator Week Demo with Lewes Beekeeping Club at 10 am

Juneteenth Celebration in George H.P. Smith Park starts at 1 pm

At 10 am, the Market celebrates Pollinator Week with a demo by the Lewes Beekeeping Club. This is a great demo for kids and adults alike! Learn about the life cycle of the bee, how beekeepers care for bees and their hives, and how honey is harvested. Local honey can be tasted at Stag Run Farm’s tent located right next to the demo area.

The Market is supporting the Juneteenth Celebration which begins in the Park at 1 pm after the Market closes at noon. Join the City of Lewes and the Lewes African American Heritage Commission for the third annual Juneteenth Celebration, with live music, dancers, spoken word, food trucks and other vendors, Lewes History Tables and more. The HLFM tent and volunteers will also be there, handing out samples of delicious Bennett blueberries! This free community event is happening in George H.P. Smith Park from 1 to 6 pm.

For customers coming to the Market this Saturday, and folks interested in attending the Juneteenth Celebration, the best place to park for both events is the Lewes Elementary School main parking lot. Due to the event, parking close to George H.P. Smith Park will be limited for Market customers. Accessible parking will still be available in the Circle of the Fred Thomas Building, and the two lots behind the Fred Thomas Building will still be open for customers. There will be no street parking on Dupont Avenue between Johnson Avenue and the Fred Thomas Building, and the parking lot where the porta potties are located will also be closed.

Thirty-six local farmers/producers will bring peaches, tomatoes, blueberries, blackberries, sour cherries, snap peas, kohlrabi, radishes, turnips, beets, lettuces, oysters, live crabs, hand-picked crab meat, honey, jams, mushrooms, freshly-laid eggs, chicken, beef, pork, lamb, A-2 milk, yogurt, butter, ice cream treats, kombucha, cold-pressed juices, fresh-baked breads, cakes, cookies, pies, and pastries made with fruit from vendors at the Market, herb, veggie, and flower plants, fresh-cut herbs, beautiful cut-flower bouquets, and much more. New this Saturday is Kahiau’s Bakery, an all-vegan bakery bringing gluten-free options of pastries, cakes, cookies, and some savory offerings to Market!

The HLFM is unique in that it is producer-only—customers are able to buy directly from the farmer who grew the produce. This Market is where the farmers are—the most farmers in any farmers market in the Delmarva!

Please note that dogs and other pets (except for service animals) are not permitted inside the Market. This is to ensure the safety of customers, vendors, and volunteers. Customers may still walk their dogs around the other paths and parts of George H.P. Smith Park but may not bring them inside the Market area.

The very popular Children’s Storytime at the Market starts at 10am under the yellow tent with the Lewes Public Library this week reading books about farming, gardening, and healthy eating. All children and their adults are welcome. Thanks to Heirloom Restaurant for sponsoring this program.

The HLFM Big Raffle continues with the fan-favorite prizes: the Fabu-Lewes-Feast including 12 $100 restaurant gift cards and a Private-in-Home 3-Course Chef with Wine Pairing for 10 by Chef Sean Corea of Lewes Oyster House. Tickets are on sale at the Market, and the drawing is August 31st.

The HLFM website www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org lists all vendors, their contact information, and whether or not they take pre-orders. For pre-orders, the customer may pick up at the vendor tent in the Market.

The Market’s weekly newsletter lists demos and more. To receive the newsletter customers should email info@historiclewesfarmersmarket.org and ask to be added to the list.

The Market accepts SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP benefits, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Please go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.

The HLFM continues its Food Pantry Purchase Program. HLFM customers who want to help feed the local community may purchase local produce, meats, milk, and other food from growers at the Market to donate to this program every Saturday. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to food pantries including Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.

Parking is limited, so customers should walk or bike to the Market if they are able.  The circle in front of the Fred Thomas Building at the foot of Dupont will be open for accessible drop-off and pick-up, with some spots available for accessible parking only. With the addition of new sidewalks to George H.P. Smith Park, one of the best places to park is in the main parking lot at the Lewes Elementary School (where the Market moves if it rains) at 820 Savannah Road. The HLFM asks customers to please drive carefully when parking for the Market and watch for children, walkers, and bikers around the Park.

The HLFM Wednesday Market at Crooked Hammock Brewery is open from 8 to 11:30 am. Wednesday Market vendors include Bennett Orchards, Cosmic Dog Farm, Davidson’s Exotic Mushrooms, Dittmar Family Farms, Dream Catcher Homestead, Kalmar Farm, Mayhems Confections, Old World Breads, the Point Coffee House and Bakery, and Stag Run Farm. The HLFM thanks Crooked Hammock Brewery for sponsoring the Wednesday Market.

The HLFM thanks The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group, 2024 HLFM Market Champion, for their continued support of the Market. It also thanks all of the 2024 Market Sponsors!

In case of inclement weather, the Market moves to the Lewes Elementary School parking lot, 820 Savannah Road.
