Customer Appreciation Day at the Fall Market
Saturday, November 9th, is Customer Appreciation Day at the Fall Market. Brownie bites from Old World Bread, gluten-free brownie bites from Weathered Eye Farm, and apple cider from Fifer’s and Stag Run Farm will be free to customers at Historic Lewes Farmers Market, as well as additional customer thank yous from the farmers and producers throughout the Market.
Customers looking for fresh local cauliflower, cabbage, lima beans, acorn squash, collard greens, kale, broccoli, butternut squash, and apple cider jams will find them all at this Saturday’s Fall Market. The harvest is in, and Market farmers are also bringing lemongrass, potatoes, Brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, carrots, turnips, lettuces, persimmons, Asian pears, apples, freshly pressed apple cider, oysters, live crabs, hand-picked crab meat, crab soup, seasonal soups, honey, jams, mushrooms, chicken, beef, pork, turkey, lamb, freshly laid eggs, locally roasted coffee and coffee drinks, kombucha, fresh-baked breads, cakes, cookies, pies, and pastries—including vegan and gluten-free selections—made with fruit from vendors at the Market, apple cider donuts, beautiful flower bouquets, wreaths, and much more. Customers can also pre-order their fresh, free-range Thanksgiving turkeys from Mahon River Farm.
The HLFM is unique in that it is producer-only—customers connect directly with the farmer who grew the produce and raised the animals to buy their local fruit, veggies, eggs, and meats. This Market is where the farmers are—the most farmers in any farmers market in the Delmarva!
Please note that dogs and other pets (except for service animals) are not permitted inside the Market. This is to ensure the safety of customers, vendors, and volunteers.
The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will again be holding its annual extra Food and Essentials Drive at the last two Markets of the season—November 16th and 23rd. The HLFM will collect at the HLFM Food Drive table near the HLFM Information Tent to supplement two food pantries—Epworth UMC in Rehoboth Beach and Casa San Francisco in Milton. The food pantries request certain non-perishables including spaghetti sauce, pasta, peanut butter, jams and jellies, canned fruits/vegetables/soups, boxed cereal, powdered or shelf-stable milk, rice, and beans. Please honor the HLFM’s mission and the health needs of folk who use the food pantries by providing healthy foods. Diapers, menstrual hygiene products, and laundry detergent are also badly needed. Pantries are always looking for fresh produce, meat, and eggs, so customers are also urged to purchase fresh food at the Market for this Food Drive. There will also be carts at the further entrances to the Market for customers to place their shelf-stable items from home. Please include your kids and grandchildren in supporting our community and giving to the food drive—any child that brings a donation to the Food Drive table will get a free fruit or veggie temporary tattoo!
We encourage customers that are able to bike or walk to the Market. Entrance for walkers and bikers is off Savannah Road. Parking is available in the school’s bus loop parking lot off of Sussex Drive–with coned off accessible parking spaces in the section closest to the Market. Customers may also use the new Fred Thomas Middle School parking lot. Beebe Hospital also generously allows Market customers to park in its outside parking lot, and there is parking available at George H.P. Smith Park, a short walk on the path to Lewes Elementary School.
The HLFM website www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org lists all vendors, their contact information, and whether or not they take pre-orders. For pre-orders, the customer may pick up at the vendor tent in the Market.
The Market’s weekly newsletter lists what each vendor is bringing to Market, demos and more. To receive the newsletter customers should email info@historiclewesfarmersmarket.org and ask to be added to the list. View this week’s newsletter as a web page.
The Market accepts SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP benefits, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Please go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.
The HLFM continues its Food Pantry Purchase Program. HLFM customers who want to help feed the local community
may purchase local produce, meats, milk, and other food from growers at the Market to donate to this program every Saturday. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to food pantries including Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.
The HLFM thanks The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group, 2024 HLFM Market Champion, for their continued support of the Market.
