Colonel David Hall Chapter, National Society Daughter of the American Revolution (DAR)

The Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, nonpolitical women’s volunteer service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism. The Colonel David Hall Lewes Chapter owns a historic home in Lewes. In 1959, when the house was threatened with demolition, members of the Colonel David Hall Chapter NSDAR raised funds to buy the house and return it to its pre-Revolutionary war condition. This historic hall and chamber style house was built in 1739 by Samuel Paynter and provides a glimpse into the home life of its residents, the Shields and Maull families, who made their living as river pilots and farmers.

The house is located at 536 Pilottown Road and is open for tours every Saturday from the 4th of July weekend through the end of August.
