Kids’ Ketch
Kids’ Ketch, situated in the former Franklin Hardware building in Downtown Lewes, first originated across the street in a 450 square foot shop in May of 1990. Owner, Teresa Ford, raising two young children, felt there was a need for quality toys in the area. As anticipated, the store filled a much-needed niche, and she soon moved out of her first store to a new location up the street, doubling in size. In late 1997, still yearning for more space, she and her husband Jim purchased the Franklin Hardware building on Second Street. In addition to toys, books and games for all ages, the shop originally carried small accessory items for kids like hats and T-shirts. Years back, Kids’ Ketch branched out further in the fashion world and the store now carries a broad selection of playwear for newborn to size 14. “We like to say we carry the clothes kids love to wear- comfortable and stylish.” said Teresa. Over the years, running the shop has been a family affair, with Jim, her children, Jacob and Maren, and her mother, Mary Pritchett all working in the shop. The store manager, Karin Laroche, started working at Kids’ Ketch when she was 14 years old. Now Karin’s young son enjoys visiting the store. “We are seeing the children of the children who used to shop with us when they were young. It’s fun seeing the next generation coming in.” So, if you’re one of the generations of devoted Kids’ Ketch shoppers (and a kid at heart no matter what your age) thanks for your fun and support. And, if you haven’t met us yet, stop in and say hi; there’s always something new and fun going on here for kids of all ages.
