In honor of Harry Derrickson
Harry Derrickson was a local business man who was very active in the Rehoboth, Lewes and Milton communities. He was a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel who served in World War II and the Korean War. Derrickson was a civil defense director in the late 1960s and served temporarily as Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control under former Gov. Pierre S. du Pont IV.
Derrickson was in the Delaware House of Representatives from 1969 until 1976 and again in 1981 and 1982. While in the legislature, the Republican held the posts of both minority and majority leader of the House and was a member of the Joint Finance Committee.
Up until his death in August of 1990, he served as the Chairman of the Beebe Medical Center Board of Directors and President of the Rehoboth Beach Chamber of Commerce. Derrickson was an active member of the Rehoboth Beach Kiwanis Club and Epworth United Methodist Church, where he served on the administrative board and taught Sunday school.
