The Col. David Hall Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution is pleased to present the third program in our Genealogy Speaker Series on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lewes Public Library.

Our featured speaker will be Dick Carter, noted author and historian. A longtime student of Delaware history, Mr. Carter is the author of three books: The History of Sussex County (1976); Clearing New Ground—The Life of John G. Townsend, Jr. (2nd ed., 2001); and Gene Bookhammer and His World—The Life and Times of Lewes’s Elder Statesman (2009). From 1977 to 1987, he served as Director of the Sussex County Historical Preservation Office. He currently volunteers as Chairman of the Delaware Heritage Commission and is helping to prepare for Delaware and America’s 250th anniversary in 2026. Since 1987, Mr. Carter has also served on the staff of the Delaware State Senate.

Mr. Carter will discuss his personal genealogical journey, demonstrating how he used the Ancestry platform and other resources to identify a Revolutionary War patriot, making him eligible for membership in the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).

Following the presentation, DAR genealogists will be available to assist attendees with their own research on the Ancestry platform.

Seating is limited.
Please RSVP by January 14 by replying to this email (makelly.dar@gmail.com) with your name, phone number, and email address.
