The Historic Lewes Farmers Market holds its annual extra Food and Essentials Drive at the last two Fall Markets before Thanksgiving—November 15th and 22nd. The HLFM will collect at the HLFM Food Drive table to supplement two local food pantries—Epworth UMC in Rehoboth Beach and Casa San Francisco in Milton.
The food pantries request certain non-perishables including spaghetti sauce, pasta, peanut butter, jams and jellies, canned fruits/vegetables/soups, boxed cereal, powdered or shelf-stable milk, rice, and beans. Please honor the HLFM’s mission and the health needs of folks who use the food pantries by providing healthy foods. Diapers, menstrual hygiene products, and laundry detergent are also badly needed. Pantries always need fresh produce, meat, and eggs, so customers are also urged to purchase fresh food at the Market for the Food Drive. There will also be carts at the further entrances to the Market closest to the parking areas for customers to place their items from home.

The HLFM is unique in that it is producer-only—customers connect directly with the farmer who grew the produce and raised the animals to buy their local fruit, veggies, eggs, and meats. This Market is where the farmers are—the most farmers in any farmers market in Delmarva!
The Market accepts SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP benefits. With the uncertainty around SNAP benefits, the HLFM will continue to provide all customers that have a SNAP card $20 of Bonus Bucks tokens to spend at the Market, without the need for SNAP customers to match with their benefits. The HLFM offers this additional assistance through the end of our season at the Holiday Market on Saturday, December 6th. Customers can find the SNAP tent inside the Market with volunteers to process remaining SNAP/EBT benefits and give the HLFM tokens that can be used at the Market. Customers must present their SNAP card at the SNAP tent to receive the $20 of HLFM Bonus Bucks tokens. Customers can also find a list at the SNAP tent of the names, addresses, phone numbers, and hours for 17 local area food pantries that receive food from small farmers through the HLFM Farm to Community Program for additional assistance.
Please note that dogs and other pets (except for service animals) are not permitted inside the Market. This is to ensure the safety of customers, vendors, and volunteers.
The HLFM encourages customers that are able to bike or walk to the Market. Entrance for walkers and bikers is off Savannah Road. Parking is available in the school’s bus loop parking lot off of Sussex Drive–with coned off accessible parking spaces in the section closest to the Market. Customers may also use the Fred Thomas Middle School parking lot. Beebe Hospital also generously allows Market customers to park in its outside parking lot, and there is parking available at George H.P. Smith Park, a short walk on the path to Lewes Elementary School.
The HLFM continues its Food Pantry Purchase Program. HLFM customers who want to help feed the local community every Saturday may purchase local produce, meat, and other food directly from growers at the Market to donate to this program, or through donations at the HLFM Information tent. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to food pantries including Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.
A reminder that Saturday, November 22nd is the Thanksgiving Market, with another collection for the HLFM Food and Essentials Drive, and then after a Saturday off, December 6th ends the season with a special Holiday Market. At the Holiday Market, customers will be encouraged to spend $20 for 20 Years – donating twenty dollars of fresh food from farmers at the Market for local area pantries in celebration of the last Market of the HLFM’s 20th Anniversary Season.
The HLFM thanks The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group for their continued support of the Market, especially for this special season, as 2025 HLFM Market Champion.
