The Historic Lewes Farmers Market holds its last Summer Market at George H.P. Smith Park this Saturday from 8am to noon, weather permitting, before the Fall Market Season begins on Saturdays an hour later – from 9am to noon- at Lewes Elementary School parking lot from October 4th through November 22nd. New this year, the HLFM will have a final Holiday Market 9am to noon at Lewes Elementary School parking lot on Saturday, December 6th.
This Saturday, customers at the Historic Lewes Farmers Market can celebrate the season change with fresh, seasonal soups! Jackie Blues will have Cream O’ Crab, Veggie Crab, and Veggie Cream O’ Crab soup, Old World Breads will have Sweet Potato Bisque, Thai Coconut Lentil, Cream of Crab, Chicken Noodle, and New England Clam Chowder soups, the Point will have Cream of Mushroom, Broccoli Cheddar, Roasted Corn and Bell Pepper soups, Gather will have a soup and biscuit combo with their Butternut Squash Soup featuring Fox Briar Farm leeks and Anya’s Homestead squash, and Mahon River Farm will have fresh, homemade chicken bone broth. There will also be various vegan soup options from Kahiau’s Bakery like Split Pea Soup, Pasta Fazool, Pumpkin Chili, and Veggie, Kale and Lentil Soup. Many other Market farmers will have special soup ingredients for those customers looking to make their own favorite recipes, including veggie soup groupings from Fox Briar Farm and Dittmar Family Farms, Enoch Farms smoked ham hocks, ham, and andouille sausage (great for gumbo!) as well as Reid Angus small roasts, stew cubes, ranch and chuck steaks. Be sure to bring your shopping list!
At the Market this Saturday, local farmers and producers will also be bringing apple cider, apple cider donuts, apples, pears, delicata, butternut, acorn, patty pan, and spaghetti squashes, pumpkins, decorative gourds, heirloom and hybrid tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers, scallions, sweet corn, white sweet potatoes, beets, green beans, radishes, onions, arugula, kale, lettuces, microgreens, sweet and hot peppers, local salt, oysters, live crabs, hand-picked crabmeat, grass-fed chicken, beef, pork, honey, jams, freshly-laid eggs, coffee drinks, kombucha, cold-pressed juices, fresh-baked breads, pastries made with fruit from Market farmers, gluten-free offerings, beautiful cut-flower bouquets, and much more! Customers can also pre-order their fresh, free-range Thanksgiving turkeys from Mahon River Farm.
The HLFM is unique in that it is producer-only—customers connect directly with the farmer who grew the produce and raised the animals to buy their local fruit, veggies, eggs, and meats. This Market is where the farmers are—the most farmers in any farmers market in Delmarva!
Please note that dogs and other pets (except for service animals) are not permitted inside the Market. This is to ensure the safety of customers, vendors, and volunteers. Customers may still walk their dogs around the other paths and parts of George H.P. Smith Park but may not bring them inside the Market area.
The HLFM continues its Food Pantry Purchase Program. HLFM customers who want to help feed the local community every Saturday may purchase local produce, meat, and other food directly from growers at the Market to donate to this program, or through donations at the HLFM Information tent. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to food pantries including Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.
The Market accepts SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP benefits, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Please go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.
The HLFM encourages customers that are able to bike or walk to the Market. The circle in front of the Fred Thomas Building at the foot of Dupont will be open for accessible drop-off and pick-up, with some spots available for accessible parking only. With the new sidewalks to George H.P. Smith Park, the best place customers can park is at the main parking lot at the Lewes Elementary School (where the Market moves if it rains) at 820 Savannah Road, with just a short walk down the path to Market. Beebe Hospital also generously allows Market customers to park in its outside parking lot.
In case of inclement weather, the Market moves to the Lewes Elementary School parking lot, 820 Savannah Road.
The HLFM thanks The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group for their continued support of the Market, especially for this special season, as 2025 HLFM Market Champion.
