Pepper Day at the Market – Bodhi Kitchen to Demo at 10am

Chefs Rachel Diener and Beau Fazio from Bodhi Kitchen in Rehoboth return to the HLFM Demo tent at 10am this Saturday to help the HLFM celebrate Pepper Day at the Market. Using fresh ingredients from Market farmers, they will demonstrate how to prepare a blistered shishito pepper and cucumber salad with charred peanuts and chili oil. Don’t miss this incredible Chef Demonstration highlighting local seasonal flavors!

Pepper day at the Market will feature peppers from sweet to spicy and everything in between: bell, sweet, poblano, jalapeno, serrano, chili, habanero, shishito, and more! HLFM farmers and producers will also bring watermelon, peaches, cantaloupe, tomatoes, shallots, potatoes, beets, green beans, eggplant, cucumbers, summer squash, zucchini, carrots, kale, cabbage, garlic, onions, hydroponic and field lettuces, herbs, microgreens, eggs, cold-pressed juices, kombucha, beef, pork, chicken, lamb, oysters, crab, mushrooms, freeze-dried local fruits and veggies, cut-flower bouquets, freshly baked breads and pastries, jams and jellies, local honey, and much more!

Stop by the last HLFM Wednesday Markets at Crooked Hammock Brewery! Customers can find local fruits, veggies, honey, meats, eggs, baked goods, and flowers Wednesdays from 8am to 11:30am through September 2nd.

The HLFM is unique in that it is producer-only—customers connect directly with the farmer who grew the produce and raised the animals to buy their local fruit, veggies, eggs, and meats. This Market is where the farmers are—the most farmers in any farmers market in the Delmarva!

Don’t miss all of the chances to win at the HLFM Summer Raffle this Market season! Visitors will have the full Raffle season to purchase tickets with a final drawing on September 5th to win a Lewes Oyster House 3-Course Chef’s Tasting with Wine Pairing for 6-8 at the LOH Chef’s Table. Quilt-maker extraordinaire Laurie Sieminski has gifted a beautiful veggie-themed quilt for this season’s Market Raffle. Customers have even more chances to win restaurant gift cards and tickets for local experiences and activities through monthly and daily drawings. Stop by the HLFM Raffle Tent for all of the prize and drawing information. Tickets are $5 each or 6 tickets for $25. All proceeds go to the HLFM farmer support and food access programs.

Please note that dogs and other pets (except for service animals) are not permitted inside the Market. This is to ensure the safety of customers, vendors, and volunteers. Customers may still walk their dogs around the other paths and parts of George H.P. Smith Park but may not bring them inside the Market area.

The very popular Children’s Storytime at the Market continues at 10am under the yellow tent each Saturday Market. Volunteers read books about farming, gardening, and healthy eating. All children and their adults are welcome.

The HLFM encourages customers that are able to bike or walk to the Market. The circle in front of the Fred Thomas Building at the foot of Dupont will be open for accessible drop-off and pick-up, with some spots available for accessible parking only. The best place customers can park is at the main parking lot at the Lewes Elementary School (where the Market moves if it rains) at 820 Savannah Road, with just a short walk on the sidewalk path to the Market at George H.P. Smith Park. Beebe Hospital also generously allows Market customers to park in its outside parking lot.

Save the date! On Sunday, October 25 at 2:30pm at the Lewes Elementary School auditorium, the Historic Lewes Farmers Market will be presenting Farming to Feed Delaware—a panel discussion on the past, present, and future of Delaware agriculture, centering on the crucial role of vegetable and fruit farming to feed people. This event is in partnership with Lewes250, free for all to attend, and will feature speakers including local family farmers.

The Market accepts SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP benefits, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Please go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.

The HLFM continues its Food Pantry Purchase Program. HLFM customers who want to help feed the local community every Saturday may purchase local produce, meat, and other food directly from growers at the Market to donate to this program, or through donations at the HLFM Information Tent. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to food pantries including Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.
