Chef Sean Corea of Lewes Oyster House to Demo at 10am

Executive Chef and Owner Sean Corea from Lewes Oyster House will return to the HLFM Demo tent at 10am this Saturday to help the HLFM celebrate Labor Day weekend at the Market. Using fresh ingredients from Market farmers, he will highlight his favorite local seasonal flavors.

Customers can prepare for their Labor Day weekend celebrations at the Market this Saturday, with offerings including beef patties, pork sausages, chicken breasts, portabella mushrooms, sweet corn, and other veggies for the grill. HLFM farmers and producers will also bring watermelon, peppers, cantaloupe, apples, paw paws, tomatoes, shallots, potatoes, beets, green beans, eggplant, red onions, cucumbers, summer squash, zucchini, garlic, onions, hydroponic and field lettuces, herbs, microgreens, eggs, cold-pressed juices, kombucha, beef, pork, chicken, lamb, oysters, crab, mushrooms, freeze-dried local fruits and veggies, cut-flower bouquets, freshly baked breads and pastries, jams and jellies, local honey, and much more!

The HLFM is unique in that it is producer-only—customers connect directly with the farmer who grew the produce and raised the animals to buy their local fruit, veggies, eggs, and meats. This Market is where the farmers are—the most farmers in any farmers market in the Delmarva!

This Saturday is the last chance to purchase tickets for the HLFM Summer Raffle this Market season! The drawing will be this Saturday, September 5^th at 11am at the Raffle Tent. The fabulous prizes include a Lewes Oyster House 3-Course Chef’s Tasting with Wine Pairing for 6-8 at the LOH Chef’s Table, a beautiful veggie-themed quilt from quilt-maker extraordinaire Laurie Sieminski, the Dinner Delights bundle of $1,000 in local restaurant gift cards, and the Lewes Shopping Spree bundle featuring gift cards to stores and restaurants in downtown Lewes. Tickets are $5 each or 6 tickets for $25. All proceeds go to the HLFM farmer support and food access programs, and winners do not need to be present at the Market to win.

As kids head back to school, this Saturday is the final Children’s Storytime at the Market for the season, at 10am under the yellow tent with volunteers reading books about farming, gardening, and healthy eating. All children and their adults are welcome.

Please note that dogs and other pets (except for service animals) are not permitted inside the Market. This is to ensure the safety of customers, vendors, and volunteers. Customers may still walk their dogs around the other paths and parts of George H.P. Smith Park but may not bring them inside the Market area.

The HLFM encourages customers that are able to bike or walk to the Market. The circle in front of the Fred Thomas Building at the foot of Dupont will be open for accessible drop-off and pick-up, with some spots available for accessible parking only. The best place customers can park is at the main parking lot at the Lewes Elementary School (where the Market moves if it rains) at 820 Savannah Road, with just a short walk on the sidewalk path to the Market at George H.P. Smith Park. Beebe Hospital also generously allows Market customers to park in its outside parking lot.

Save the date! On Sunday, October 25 at 2:30pm at the Lewes Elementary School auditorium, the Historic Lewes Farmers Market will be presenting Farming to Feed Delaware—a panel discussion on the past, present, and future of Delaware agriculture, centering on the crucial role of vegetable and fruit farming to feed people. This event is in partnership with Lewes250, free for all to attend, and will feature speakers including local family farmers.

The Market accepts SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP benefits, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Please go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.

The HLFM continues its Food Pantry Purchase Program. HLFM customers who want to help feed the local community every Saturday may purchase local produce, meat, and other food directly from growers at the Market to donate to this program, or through donations at the HLFM Information Tent. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to food pantries including Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.
