Apple Celebration featuring Chef Dru Tevis and Stag Run Farm

This Saturday at the Lewes Elementary School parking lot, the HLFM celebrates apples with a special 10am Demo featuring Chef Dru Tevis, owner of Brûlé Bakery and winner of the national Food Network Holiday Baking Championship, and Lenore Brady of Stag Run Farm. Lenore will talk all about apples, then Chef Dru will feature a recipe for his delicious Sticky Apple Cake!

HLFM farmers and producers will bring apples, apple cider, apple cider donuts, apple jams and jellies, alongside broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, pumpkins, varieties of winter squashes, beans, potatoes, beets, radishes, turnips, napa cabbage, radicchio, arugula, kale, Swiss chard, sweet and hot peppers, hydroponic and field lettuces, microgreens, local salt, seasonal soups, eggs, cold-pressed juices, kombucha, beef, pork, chicken, lamb, oysters, crab, mushrooms, freeze-dried local fruits and veggies, cut-flower bouquets, freshly baked breads and pastries, jams and jellies, local honey, and much more!

The HLFM is unique in that it is producer-only—customers connect directly with the farmer who grew the produce and raised the animals to buy their local fruit, veggies, eggs, and meats. This Market is where the farmers are—the most farmers in any farmers market in the Delmarva!

Save the date! On Sunday, October 25 at 2:30pm at the Lewes Elementary School auditorium, the Historic Lewes Farmers Market will be presenting Farming to Feed Delaware—a panel discussion on the past, present, and future of Delaware agriculture, centering on the crucial role of vegetable and fruit farming to feed people. This event is in partnership with Lewes250, free for all to attend, and will feature speakers including local family farmers, Delaware historians, and Delaware Secretary of Agriculture, Don Clifton.

Please note that dogs and other pets (except for service animals) are not permitted inside the Market. This is to ensure the safety of customers, vendors, and volunteers. Customers may still walk their dogs around the other paths and parts of George H.P. Smith Park but may not bring them inside the Market area.

The Market accepts SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP benefits, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Please go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.

The HLFM continues its Food Pantry Purchase Program. HLFM customers who want to help feed the local community every Saturday may purchase local produce, meat, and other food directly from growers at the Market to donate to this program, or through donations at the HLFM Information Tent. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to food pantries including Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.

The HLFM encourages customers that are able to bike or walk to the Market. Entrance for walkers and bikers is off Savannah Road. Parking is available in the school’s bus loop parking lot off of Sussex Drive–with coned off accessible parking spaces in the section closest to the Market. Customers may also use the Fred Thomas Middle School parking lot. Beebe Hospital also generously allows Market customers to park in its outside parking lot, and there is parking available at George H.P. Smith Park, a short walk on the path to Lewes Elementary School.

Customers should mark their calendars: the Historic Lewes Farmers Market has a great lineup of Saturday Fall events not to be missed! October 17th is Jazz Fest at the Market, where saxophonist Reggie Harris and his band will return to fill the Saturday Market with incredible live jazz. On October 24th, all Market goers can get their flu vaccinations and health screenings, as the HLFM welcomes the Beebe Healthcare Team. Ghosts, witches, and superheroes will show up at the October 31st Halloween Market where prizes go to the best costumes. It’s Customer Appreciation Day on November 7th, so be sure to stop by the Market for a free brownie bite and apple cider. Visitors are encouraged to bring donations, as well as make purchases at the Market, on November 21st and 28th for the HLFM Annual Food and Essentials Drive. And December 5th ends the season with a special Holiday Market.
