he Historic Lewes Farmers Market holds its last Summer Market this Saturday, September 26th from 8am to noon at George H.P. Smith Park, weather permitting. The Fall Market Season begins on Saturdays an hour later, from 9am to noon, at Lewes Elementary School parking lot from October 3rd through November 28th, as well as the final Holiday Market on Saturday, December 5th.

This Saturday, customers at the Historic Lewes Farmers Market can celebrate the season’s change with fresh, seasonal soups! Jackie Blues and Old World Breads will have various prepared soup options, Kahiau’s Bakery will offer vegan soups, and Mahon River Farm will have fresh, homemade chicken bone broth. G’s DElights and Davidson Exotic Mushrooms will have prepackaged, dried soup mixes. Many other Market farmers will have special soup ingredients for those customers looking to make their own favorite recipes, including veggie soup groupings from Fox Briar Farm and Dittmar Family Farms, Enoch Farms smoked ham hocks and andouille sausage, Story Hill Farm beef soup bones, and Reid Angus small roasts and stew cubes.  Be sure to bring your soup shopping list!

HLFM farmers and producers will also bring pears, apples, paw paws, peppers, tomatoes, green beans, scallions, potatoes, cucumbers, butternut squash, spaghetti squash, summer squash, zucchini, eggplant, arugula, hydroponic and field lettuces, herbs, microgreens, eggs, cold-pressed juices, kombucha, beef, pork, chicken, lamb, oysters, crab, mushrooms, freeze-dried local fruits and veggies, cut-flower bouquets, freshly baked breads and pastries, jams and jellies, local honey, and much more!

The HLFM welcomes Chef Bill Clifton from the Lewes Yacht Club for a Market Demonstration at 10am this Saturday. He will be celebrating Soup Day at the Market by demonstrating a seasonal Moroccan spiced kabocha squash soup featuring fresh ingredients from Market farmers. Don’t miss this incredible Chef Demonstration highlighting local seasonal flavors!

The HLFM is unique in that it is producer-only—customers connect directly with the farmer who grew the produce and raised the animals to buy their local fruit, veggies, eggs, and meats. This Market is where the farmers are—the most farmers in any farmers market in the Delmarva!

Save the date! On Sunday, October 25 at 2:30pm at the Lewes Elementary School auditorium, the Historic Lewes Farmers Market will be presenting Farming to Feed Delaware—a panel discussion on the past, present, and future of Delaware agriculture, centering on the crucial role of vegetable and fruit farming to feed people. This event is in partnership with Lewes250, free for all to attend, and will feature speakers including local family farmers.

In case of inclement weather, the Market moves to the Lewes Elementary School parking lot, 820 Savannah Road.

Please note that dogs and other pets (except for service animals) are not permitted inside the Market. This is to ensure the safety of customers, vendors, and volunteers. Customers may still walk their dogs around the other paths and parts of George H.P. Smith Park but may not bring them inside the Market area.

The Market accepts SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP benefits, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Please go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.

The HLFM continues its Food Pantry Purchase Program. HLFM customers who want to help feed the local community every Saturday may purchase local produce, meat, and other food directly from growers at the Market to donate to this program, or through donations at the HLFM Information Tent. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to food pantries including Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.

The HLFM encourages customers that are able to bike or walk to the Market. The circle in front of the Fred Thomas Building at the foot of Dupont will be open for accessible drop-off and pick-up, with some spots available for accessible parking only. The best place customers can park is at the main parking lot at the Lewes Elementary School (where the Market moves if it rains) at 820 Savannah Road, with just a short walk on the sidewalk path to the Market at George H.P. Smith Park. Beebe Hospital also generously allows Market customers to park in its outside parking lot.
