REHOBOTH BEACH, DE – Join the Rehoboth Art League for the second annual Native Plant Sale and celebrate the organization’s horticultural heritage. On Saturday,September 13 from 10am to 2pm at 12 Dodds Lane, spend the day learning all about the benefits of planting native species and the beauty of garden design. The event is free and open to all!
The Rehoboth Art League’s Native Plant Sale will offer opportunities to purchase native plants grown by our local nursery partners, Bella Terra and the Inland Bays Garden Center.
In addition to the plant sale, the day will feature a series of workshops and tours to give attendees the opportunity to learn more about gardening and native species.
At 11:00am, there will be a free class presented by a member of the Sussex County Master Gardeners to introduce attendees to the benefits of native plants. At 12:30, staff from Mr. Cuba will host a class on native alternatives to invasive species. While these workshops are free, registration is required, and seats are limited. Register for the workshop at rehobothartleague.org/events.
There will be two guided tours of the Homestead Garden at 11:00am and 1:00pm. This beloved part of RAL’s campus was designed by the league’s founder, Louise Corkran, in 1931 and is still true to its original colonial revival design. A brief visit to the Art League’s new native plant demonstration garden will follow the tours.
A Master Naturalist Keystone Tree Walk will take place at 12:00pm. Learn about the many benefits of trees and take a closer look at native Keystone Trees found across the Art League’s 3.5 acre campus. Participants will see some of the invasive plants and trees found here and the challenges they present to our native species.
Patrons will also have the unique opportunity to sponsor a limited number of bird boxes, created by Rehoboth woodworker Hurley Waples, that will be on view at the event. These boxes will be placed around the RAL grounds with the assistance of the Delaware Audubon Society to help encourage a bird-friendly campus. Sponsorship for these permanent fixtures will be available beginning on the day of the Native Plant Sale. For more information about sponsoring an RAL bird box, contact jenny@rehobothartleague.org.
