Step back into 1813 as Lewes defies the might of Great Britain’s Royal Navy. Commodore John P. Beresford and his squadron of warships fly the colors of the British Empire just offshore, and the town is threatened by enemy guns.  This one-day event commemorates old Lewestown’s spirited resistance at the mouth of Delaware Bay during the War of 1812, allowing guests to explore with living historians representing Delawarean civilians and defenders on one side, and sailors and redcoats of the British fleet on the other.  Hear musket volleys crash and smell the smoke of black powder, watch soldiers drilling at arms and sailors maneuver their boats in the Canal, enjoy exhibits and displays, and taste history at Historic Lewes’ Sussex Tavern and Lewistown Coffee-House.

Locations: Historic Lewes Town Campus & Cannonball House Maritime Museum.

Free admission, suggested $10 donation.
