The Lewes Junction Railroad & Bridge Association (LJRBA) will host a Volunteer Recruitment Event on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event will take place in the medium meeting room of the Lewes Public Library, located at 111 Adams Avenue, Lewes, DE 19958. The association is actively seeking community members to help share and preserve local history.
LJRBA is looking for individuals with a diverse range of talents and interests. A primary need includes volunteers to guide educational tours of the historic rail equipment on display at Lewes Junction. Additionally, community members who enjoy history, education, railroads, writing, record keeping, event planning, or hands-on maintenance of historical artifacts are highly encouraged to attend. No prior railroad experience is required.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet current association members, learn about the organizational mission, and discover how they can contribute to keeping Lewes’s rich rail history alive. “Volunteering with LJRBA is a great way to meet others who care about Lewes and our history,” said Andrea Brock, LJRBA board member. “Each of our board members and other volunteers came to the organization for different reasons and contributes to its success in different ways. The only common denominator is that we all want to enrich the experience of living in and visiting Lewes.”
LJRBA’s rail display at Lewes Junction features a cosmetically restored, 1913 Pennsylvania Railroad steam engine and a 1917 Pennsylvania Railroad red caboose. The Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, restoring, and celebrating the railroad heritage of Lewes, Delaware and the surrounding region. Through its historical displays and educational programs, the association connects the community with the vital role railroads played in local history.
