Peninsula Gallery Wins Two Awards During its 30th Year in Business
The Peninsula Gallery, which is celebrating its 30th year in business, recently won two awards, solidifying its enduring relevance as one of the region’s defining art organizations.
On a national scale, the gallery was awarded the title Best Art Gallery in Delaware by the American Art Awards. Each year, the American Art Awards board chooses the best galleries across America. Selections are based on years established, industry reputation, online buzz, location, size, socially relevant exhibitions, represented artists, as well as artist, client, and visitor references. The Peninsula Gallery is one of two Delaware galleries recognized for this prestigious award (the other being The Delaware Contemporary in Wilmington).
In our state, the Peninsula Gallery was voted as Best Custom Framing (Downstate) by Delaware Today’s readers. Each year, Delaware Today reaches out to its readers to hear which businesses, people, and places they think are the best of the best in the region. The competition includes everything from food and drink to arts and entertainment and everything in between. Previously, the gallery won Best Art Gallery (Downstate) in the 2015 Best of Delaware competition.
Tony Boyd-Heron, co-owner of the Peninsula Gallery, says of the honors: “We’re so grateful to have been supported and championed for 30 years by the community here in Sussex County. We’re thrilled that both sides of our business have been recognized this year, as we take great pride in the quality of our framing and artwork curation. I’d particularly like to thank our marketing manager, Shelby, for keeping the gallery’s image modern, and digital presence active. Shelby and Molly are both wonderful assets to Carol and me. We’re looking forward to our 31st year in business and preparing the gallery for a new decade.”
The Peninsula Gallery is one of the largest originals-only fine art galleries in Delaware. Starting small in 1996, it has grown to provide 3,000 square feet of display and custom framing space. Owners Carol and Tony Boyd-Heron have always considered the gallery to be an extension of their home. Visitors are invited to browse in a relaxing atmosphere where works from upwards of 30 local, regional, and international resident artists are on display year-round. Work changes on a regular basis, so the space stays fresh. Framers Carol and Molly have over 40 years of custom framing experience between them. With a reputation for innovative design, they use only the finest archival materials in all their work, whether it be a grandchild’s sentimental drawing or a fine masterpiece. They are also able to advise on painting and frame restoration.
The gallery is always free and open to all, and all the artworks available for purchase can be viewed online at peninsula-gallery.com. The gallery is located in the Shops at the Beacon, 520 East Savannah Rd. Lewes, DE, and is open Tue-Sat 10-5, and Sun 11-3.
