34th Annual Lewes Garden Tour on June 21st
The Lewes Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau sponsors its 34th annual Lewes Garden
Tour on Saturday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are eight private gardens and two public
gardens on the tour this year. Tickets are on sale now through the chamber’s website –
LewesChamber.com and will be available to be picked up at the chamber’s visitor center in the
Fisher-Martin House at 120 Kings Highway beginning Friday, May 23. Pre-sale tickets are $30
and $35 on the day of the tour. The actual ticket is a booklet that includes a description of each garden and a map. The ticket/booklets will be available for purchase at the chamber’s visitor center also beginning May 23 through the day of the event. The gardens are selected by the event
committee’s co-chairs with assistance from other members of the committee. This year’s committee members are Co-Chairs: Pam Rankin & Carolyn Marshall; Program Garden Descriptions: Susan Crawford; and Volunteer Coordinator: Terry Yates.
In addition to touring the gardens, the event includes a Garden Market in Zwaanendael Park with vendors selling garden-related items during the hours of the tour (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.). This year’s tour is reprising Garden Lectures in Zwaanendael Park. Two Lewes in Bloom members, Bill Edelman and Maureen Larkin, will be in the park offering presentations and displays. At 1 p.m., Bill Edelman will provide tips for maintaining your plantings and at 1:45 p.m., Maureen will explain all the benefits that butterflies bring to our environment. Another feature of the tour is Artists in the Gardens. Seven members of the Cape Artists will be painting in some of the tour gardens. They are: Kath Johnson, Daphne Blaker, George Farrah, Patricia Truitt, Janet March, Kathy Casey and Evelyn Vanderloo. Additionally, there are two garden owners, Jeff and Marva Heckert, whose creative talents extend to other mediums besides their horticultural creativity. They will have some of their artistry on display if weather permits.
The Lewes Chamber of Commerce visitor center is in the historic Fisher-Martin House located in Zwaanendael Park next to the Zwaanendael Museum. The visitor center hours are Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and beginning May 24, it will be open seven days a week.
