Chef Megan Kee from Bramble & Brine at the Buttery returns to the Market Demo tent this Saturday at 10am. She will be preparing traditional corn dodgers with sweet corn and bacon drippings, blackberry butter, and cowboy candied bacon. Chef Megan Kee will be using ingredients fresh from the Wednesday and Saturday Markets, including corn, bacon, milk, butter, honey, blackberries, and peppers!

It’s Flower Day at the Market this Saturday! Customers can come to the HLFM Info tent and check out small flower bouquets showcasing the beautiful flowers available from vendors around the Market.

Thirty-six local farmers/producers will bring cantaloupe, seedless watermelons, and multiple summer varieties of tomatoes, peaches, eggplant, peppers, and squash. Customers will also find blackberries and raspberries, potatoes, sweet corn, green beans and pole beans, carrots, radishes, beets, arugula, Swiss chard, kale, and cabbage. The best local oysters, live crabs and hand-picked crab meat, freshly laid eggs, chicken, turkey, beef, pork, lamb, and even duck (at Mahon River Farm) can be found at the Market this Saturday. C

ustomers can finish off their shopping lists with honey, jams, mushrooms, A-2 milk, yogurt, butter, ice cream treats, fresh coffee drinks, kombucha, cold-pressed juices, fresh-baked breads, cakes, cookies, pies, and pastries—including vegan and gluten-free selections—made with fruit from vendors at the Market, herb, veggie, and flower plants, fresh-cut herbs, and much more.

The HLFM is unique in that it is producer-only—customers connect directly with the farmer who grew the produce and raised the animals to buy their local fruit, veggies, eggs, dairy, and meats. This Market is where the farmers are—the most farmers in any farmers market in the Delmarva!

Please note that dogs and other pets (except for service animals) are not permitted inside the Market. This is to ensure the safety of customers, vendors, and volunteers. Customers may still walk their dogs around the other paths and parts of George H.P. Smith Park but may not bring them inside the Market area.

Save the dates! The Historic Lewes Farmers Market has two exciting events coming up at the Saturday Market at George H. P. Smith Park. On Saturday, August 3, the HLFM will hold its annual Tomato Festival, where everyone can bring their largest home-grown tomatoes for the Biggest Tomato at the Market contest (Tomato entries need to be at the Tomato Festival Tent by 9am), enter the Guess the Number of Tomatoes in the Jar for a prize for the closest guess, a 10am demonstration from Kindle restaurant, and more. On Saturday, August 17, Kid’s Day at the Market returns – this year with a new, unique chance for kids to pet two bottle lambs from Brittingham Farms – as well as a special Children’s Storytime, Market demonstration, and kid’s activities and games throughout the Market.

The very popular Children’s Storytime at the Market starts at 10am under the yellow tent with volunteers reading books about farming, gardening, and healthy eating – this week partnering with the Lewes Public Library! All children and their adults are welcome. Thanks to Heirloom Restaurant for sponsoring this program.

The HLFM Big Raffle continues with the fan-favorite prizes: the Fabu-Lewes-Feast including 12 $100 restaurant gift cards and a Private-in-Home 3-Course Chef with Wine Pairing for 10 by Lewes Oyster House’s Chef Sean Corea. Tickets are on sale at the Market, and the drawing is August 31st.

In case of inclement weather, the Market moves to the Lewes Elementary School parking lot, 820 Savannah Road.

The HLFM website www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org lists all vendors, their contact information, and whether or not they take pre-orders. For pre-orders, the customer may pick up at the vendor tent in the Market.

The Market’s weekly newsletter lists demos and more. To receive the newsletter customers should email info@historiclewesfarmersmarket.org and ask to be added to the list.

The Market accepts SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP benefits, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Please go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.

The HLFM continues its Food Pantry Purchase Program. HLFM customers who want to help feed the local community may purchase local produce, meats, milk, and other food from growers at the Market to donate to this program every Saturday. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to food pantries including Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.

Parking is limited, so customers should walk or bike to the Market if they are able.  The circle in front of the Fred Thomas Building at the foot of Dupont will be open for accessible drop-off and pick-up, with some spots available for accessible parking only. With the addition of new sidewalks to George H.P. Smith Park, one of the best places to park is in the main parking lot at the Lewes Elementary School (where the Market moves if it rains) at 820 Savannah Road. The HLFM asks customers to please drive carefully when parking for the Market and watch for children, walkers, and bikers around the Park.

The HLFM Wednesday Market at Crooked Hammock Brewery is open from 8 to 11:30 am through September 4th. Wednesday Market vendors include Bennett Orchards, Cosmic Dog Farm, Davidson’s Exotic Mushrooms, Dittmar Family Farms, Dream Catcher Homestead, Kalmar Farm, Mayhems Confections, Old World Breads, the Point Coffee House and Bakery, Shady Meadow Farms, Stag Run Farm, and Summer Moments Floral. The HLFM thanks Crooked Hammock Brewery for sponsoring the Wednesday Market.

The HLFM thanks The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group, 2024 HLFM Market Champion, for their continued support of the Market. It also thanks all of the 2024 Market Sponsors!
