This Saturday, November 8th, is Customer Appreciation Day at the Market. Customers who visit the Market will get a free brownie bite, apple cider, and more! Shoppers will also find cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, squashes, beets, cabbage, collard greens, kale, radishes, red potatoes, sweet potatoes, lettuces, apples, turnips, eggplants, radicchio, mizuna, arugula, microgreens, kohlrabi, sweet and hot peppers, live crabs, hand-picked crabmeat, grass-fed chicken, beef, pork, mushrooms, honey, jams and jellies, freshly-laid eggs, coffee drinks, kombucha, cold-pressed juices, apple cider, fresh-baked breads, seasonal soups and pastries made with ingredients from Market farmers, gluten-free offerings, apple cider donuts, beautiful cut-flower bouquets, pumpkin centerpieces, and much more!
The HLFM is unique in that it is producer-only—customers connect directly with the farmer who grew the produce and raised the animals to buy their local fruit, veggies, eggs, and meats. This Market is where the farmers are—the most farmers in any farmers market in Delmarva!
The Market accepts SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP benefits. With so much uncertainty concerning SNAP benefits, the HLFM is providing all customers that have a SNAP card $20 of Bonus Bucks tokens to spend at the Market, without the need for SNAP customers to match with their benefits. The HLFM is offering this additional assistance through the end of our season at the Holiday Market on Saturday, December 6th. Customers can find the SNAP tent inside the Market with volunteers to process remaining SNAP/EBT benefits and give the HLFM tokens that can be used at the Market. Customers must present their SNAP card at the SNAP tent to receive the $20 of HLFM Bonus Bucks tokens. Customers can also find a list at the SNAP tent of the names, addresses, phone numbers, and hours for 17 local area food pantries that receive food from small farmers through the HLFM Farm to Community Program for additional assistance.
This additional assistance is being funded by the generosity of individuals in our community. The Historic Lewes Farmers Market is accepting donations for its Bonus Bucks and Food Pantry Programs at http://weblink.donorperfect.com/HLFM_FoodAccessProgramsSupport and at the HLFM Info and SNAP tents at the Saturday Market.
The HLFM continues its Food Pantry Purchase Program. HLFM customers who want to help feed the local community every Saturday may purchase local produce, meat, and other food directly from growers at the Market to donate to this program, or through donations at the HLFM Information tent. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to food pantries including Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.
Please note that dogs and other pets (except for service animals) are not permitted inside the Market. This is to ensure the safety of customers, vendors, and volunteers.
The HLFM encourages customers that are able to bike or walk to the Market. Entrance for walkers and bikers is off Savannah Road. Parking is available in the school’s bus loop parking lot off of Sussex Drive–with coned off accessible parking spaces in the section closest to the Market. Customers may also use the Fred Thomas Middle School parking lot. Beebe Hospital also generously allows Market customers to park in its outside parking lot, and there is parking available at George H.P. Smith Park, a short walk on the path to Lewes Elementary School.
Customers should mark their calendars! Visitors are encouraged to bring donations, as well as make purchases at the Market, on November 15th and 22nd for the HLFM Annual Food and Essentials Drive. Saturday, November 22nd is also the Thanksgiving Market, and then after a Saturday off, December 6th ends the season with a special Holiday Market.
