National Train Day, Saturday, May 11 –  We’re firing up the boiler and the steam is building for our 2nd annual National Train Day celebration! Festivities will run from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and include presentations on the history of Lewes Junction, the importance of the railroads in Lewes and Sussex County history, some background on the recently completed “station” next to the Library and the trail, and our plans to bring our steam locomotive, “No. 60,” to join the caboose at Lewes Junction.

We are partnering with our friends at the Lewes Public Library, the Lewes Historic Society, and Art in Bloom to ensure a fun and informative set of activities and talks for adults and children alike. We will again honor the significance of the day – which commemorates the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869 when a final, golden spike was driven into the track at Promontory, Utah – with a ceremonial spike-driving by several special guests.
