Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park Annual Membership Meeting on February 21, 2026
The Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park (FOCHSP) invite members and the community to attend their Annual Membership Meeting on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2026, at the Biden Environmental Center in Cape Henlopen State Park.
Doors open at 10 am for coffee and doughnuts, with the meeting beginning at 10:30 am This event is free and open to the public.
A highlight of the meeting will be the signing of a five-year Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between FOCHSP and the Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation. The agreement will be signed by FOCHSP President Jeff Underwood and Matthew Ritter, Director of Delaware State Parks.
The MOA formally recognizes the vital role FOCHSP plays in supporting the Division’s mission and the goals of Cape Henlopen State Park. A qualified 501c (3) public charity, FOCHSP was established exclusively to support the park through fundraising, volunteer efforts, educational programming, and community engagement. The Division and FOCHSP have partnered since 2001, and this agreement continues that cooperative relationship for another five years.
Matthew Ritter and newly appointed Park Superintendent Sean Cain’s participation underscores the strong partnership between park leadership and the Friends organization.
Attendees will hear a review of FOCHSP’s 2025 accomplishments and learn about goals and initiatives planned for 2026. The meeting will also feature a special presentation by Ian Stewart, Staff Ornithologist with the Delaware Nature Society.
Stewart’s presentation, Winter Birds of Southern Delaware, will highlight bird species that spend the winter months in the region, identify prime birding locations, and offer practical tips for attracting birds to backyard habitats year-round.
Everyone interested in learning more about the Friends’ work is invited to attend. Meet board members, explore membership and volunteer opportunities, and browse Friends merchandise-including FOCHSP sweatshirts and hoodies-with proceeds supporting FOCHSP programs and projects.
